Place of the week: Hmmm, that would have to go to Sly Fox's beachfront conch shack in Andros, Bahamas. A big empty hut with what is quite possibly the best bar of all time- a refrigerator with bottled water and Kalik beer, plus a few shelves with half-empty bottles of Campari, Boodle's, and a rum or two- and a five-step walk to the water. Proprieter and namesake Mr. Fox himself is all sinew and gold chains and big sideburns, with what even his wife admits to be prodigious conch-pulling muscles. He explains the conch cracking in his own laconic way, saying that a certain slimy strand "keeps de dick 'ard." An exceptional conch salad is served there.
